I studied at the Nederlandse Academie voor Beeldcreatie for the past four years, where I completed a higher professional education (HBO) program in Film and Audiovisual Media. In my final year, I did an internship at AT5, the local broadcaster of Amsterdam. There, I worked on various programs, including Het Verkeer, Amsterdam 750, and Amsterdam Informatief. This period gave me valuable practical experience and a realistic insight into working within the journalistic and documentary world.
I grew up with a father who worked as a bailiff, which meant that from a young age I came into contact with people from all walks of life. As a result, I realized early on that it doesn’t really matter whether someone is rich or poor, or where he or she comes from. Everyone has their own story. Everyone deserves to be seen and heard.
Those encounters shaped the way I look at the world. They taught me to look beyond appearances and to listen with empathy and curiosity. That has always stayed with me and ultimately led me to filmmaking. That’s why I think hybrid documentaries are a powerful way to let anyone tell their story.
